NSCAC October 2019 Newsletter: Announcing the 2019 NSCAC Soccer HUB Online Summit

October 2019

In this edition of our Newsletter, we're featuring an article by our Director of Coaching and Education, Kosmas Mouratidis, detailing his model for a Conceptual Framework of how a "Soccer School" should be operated.

We've also got a video by our Director of Sports Science, Richard Bucciarelli, demonstrating a full soccer-specific speed and agility training session, with players' work rates monitored using the Beyond Pulse player monitoring and tracking system (including a tutorial on how coaches can use the system and work with/understand the data).

Finally, we are also thrilled to announce the launch of the first-ever Soccer HUB NSCAC Online Summit - the largest conference about soccer coaching in Canada!

Hosted in partnership with Soccer HUB, world leader in online coach education, the Summit will take place on the week of November 11th-15th, 2019, and is 100% online.

We've got an incredible lineup of guest speakers confirmed, including current and former Canadian and international professional players, coaches, fitness coaches, sport scientists, and performance analysts.

This event is available FREE to NSCAC Members, and for non-Members, the "Early-Bird" price is only $35 CAD.

Conceptual Framework for Coaching Preparation at The Soccer School, Part 1: The Coach as Self-Directed Decision Maker

(By Kosmas Mouratidis)

This conceptual framework has been consistently reviewed and revised over the course of almost 25 years. Its ongoing development and evolution, as you might imagine, is largely based on my experiences as an educator with contributions from coaches and teachers I have had the privilege of working with over the years. This piece is largely derived from my tenure at Bethany College.

The aim is to prepare coaches as self-directed decision makers. The means (i.e. framework) is through successive applications of learning sets comprised of three interactive elements:

  • Candidates’ knowledge of themselves as coaches (SELF)

  • Performance-assessment learning challenges they are presented with and demonstrate achievement through (TASK)

  • Objective quantitative and narrative formative and summative evaluations of performance, and reflections on one’s own performance (IMPACT) – which leads to candidates’ new knowledge of themselves as coaches
