Sports Management Academy is for you! As members in the Sports Community, we thought that we would let you know about our upcoming Sports Management Academy. The opportunity to network and have intimate access to 10 of the Top Sports Executives in the country is truly a valuable tool in sports. The Academy runs for 10 consecutive Wednesday Nights beginning on October 10, 2007 (ending the second week in December). Each week one of the countries top executives in their field comes into Toronto to one of the Airport hotels to discuss details about the business, how they broke into sports, and to shed some light on how to break into the industry. Each week's topic is a different one relating to the sports industry.
The Academy is limited to only 20 attendees so they have the opportunity to speak one-on-one themselves with each speaker over the 10 week program. The sessions start at 6:30 pm each Wednesday and ends around 9:00 pm. The speakers talk for about an hour or so and then entertain questions and individual conversations with those looking to network for the last 30 - 45 minutes.
Last year's top speakers included Presidents and Owners of top Professional Teams like Keith Pelley ( Argonauts) and Brad Watters (Toronto Rock Lacrosse) as well as presidents and CEO's of sports businesses,(Dick Pound) and media (Elliotte Friedman CBC) and others. This years list of speakers looks to be equally impressive with CFL Commissioner Michael Cohon, TSN President Phil King, Hamilton Bulldogs AHL Owner Michael Andlauer scheduled to be among the speakers in 2007.
While there is no hard deadline for applications, perhaps the most important feature of the Academy is in its exclusivity. The program is only open to 20 people ensuring an intimate and up close opportunity to get know and talk with each of the speakers. We usually have that number registered by the end of September so I would suggest getting your application in within the next few weeks.
The Academy serves two different types of people, those looking to network and pursue a career in sports and those who may be looking to gain valuable business insight and learn from some of the best in their fields. Several of last years attendees were able to network their encounters into job placements with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment, and the NHL's Atlanta Thrashers. It also served to educate everyone in attendance about the business of Sports.
The cost of the 10 Week Academy is 1950.00 + GST and can be broken down smaller payments for your convenience. I know this comes across as a high fee for this event, but with 100% testimonial from last year, we feel that it is completely worth the cost. Last year we had some organizations send a different executive to each of the 10 nights. If your organization or you personally are interested in networking and gaining valuable insight in the industry, the Sports Management Academy is for you.

If you are looking to be one of the select 20 to participate in this years Academy, please get back to me as soon as possible as our spaces are filling up quickly. If you have any additional Questions feel free to give me a call or email me back. I look forward to hearing from you!

NSCAC - A Voice for Canadian Coaches
| The NSCAC is a non-profit organization run by volunteers that want to add to the coaching experience. We do not administer certification courses. That responsibility lies with the Provincial and National Associations. We simply look to add to a coach's experience by offering specific seminars on various topics. We also represent the voice of the many coaches on a National basis in order to unite coaches so that they can be heard as a group. If you have issues that you wish to express, please send in your comments to the NSCAC offices in Toronto or Ottawa. If enough coaches have similar issues, then we will represent all coaches in helping to resolve or bring them to everyone's attention. In the latest issue of Inside Soccer Magazine and last issue of NewSoccer, a number of key points were made that represent the views of many coaches in Canada. The article from Inside Soccer Magazine represents the concerns of many Canadian coaches.
| In order to be heard, we need your support through membership.
| Finally, if you would like to be an NSCAC clinician and have some interesting topics you would like to share with fellow members, contact our Technical Director, Tony LaFerrara, and we will add your name to a list of coaches we can call on to make presentations.
